Low Folate (Folic Acid)
Folic Acid, which is also known as Folate, is a vitamin that is important for creating healthy red blood cells and for normal nerve function. Very low folate levels lead to anemia. If you have been told by your GP that your Folate is low, improving your intake can help prevent anemia and support overall health.
Ways to Increase Folate in Your Diet
Folate is found in small amounts in many foods. It is recommended to include folate-rich foods every day.
Good Sources of Folate can be found in:
- Leafy green vegetables (e.g spinach)
- Asparagus, green peas and broccoli
- Chickpeas
- Oranges, avocados and melon
- Some fruit juices such as orange juice and tomato juice
- Brown rice
